Before discussing and giving explanation as to what we mean by an employment lawyer, let us first give a small definition about employment and then give a short and sweet description of employment law.

What do you mean by employment and employment law?

Employment is defined as an act of hiring which involves a request for getting compensation for the contract or signed agreement taking place between the employer and the employee wherein the employer hires the services of the employee in return for payment of specific amount of wages or salaries paid to the employee as stated in the agreement drafted by the employer and signed by the employee.

Employment law is the law that contains the rules that regulate the relationships between the employees and the employers both in a group as well as individually. Some of the major areas of concern in the employment law are the job security of the employees versus the rules of hire and fire, capacity and the limit of the employer in trying to retain the employee if the employee quits the job before the end of the term and last but not the least area of concern is the structure, term and the form or type of employment agreement.

Employment laws differ from state to state in USA as per the political and economic situation, job opportunities and availability of the skilled work force in each state.

Who is the lawyer handling the employment related law suits in the court of law?

A lawyer dealing with the employment related law cases is the lawyer who handles the type of legal disputes of the clients which are in the form mental harassment disputes, wage disputes, safety violations, disputes regarding working hours, improper treatment to employee by the employer at the place of work, immigration employment disputes, whistle-blowing protection disputes and anti-union protection disputes.

  • Lawyers who want to practice the law suits concerned with the employment related legal issues( or problems) in the court of law must have good collaborative and interpersonal  skills

  • Lawyers who want to practice law in the law court and desire to file  legal suits on behalf of the employees who face the  problems at their work place must have good knowledge of the conditions (family problems or physical illness of the employee) in which the employee can work from home for the firm in which he/she is doing his/her job
